USS Stargazer NCC-2893 is one of the Constellation class star cruisers owned by the Federation and used by the Starfleet during the 24th century. It was built on one of Earth’s shipyards the San Francisco fleet yard by the Federation Space System.

Jean-Luc Picard, then the ship’s Lieutenant Commander described the USS Stargazer as one that always seem to be on the verge of flying apart when it is flying because it is overworked but underpowered. Eventually Picard became Commander Officer of the Stargazer for 22 years when its captain was killed and first officer injured.

It was in this same ship that John Crusher died. The ship was also involved in great battles and truces during Picard’s time. It was used for a truce made by the Federation in sector 21503 during the Cardassian War. Picard lost the ship in 2355 during the Battle of Maxia when he used it to destroy an unknown vessel when he first used the Picard Maneuver.

He was court-martialed for the offense but was later on absolved of all the charges. It was in 2364 that the Enterprise-D, also commanded by Jean-Luc Picard was able to salvage the USS Stargazer after a Feranggi returned it to them. It was lowered to the Xendi Starbase 9.

The cruiser featured what most Federation starships look like. It has a Science Division with chief and junior scientists, medical section, engineering section, and security section that controlled and manned the defense and weaponry.
