Of the Romulan ships during the war, the Cabbage-class cruiser dominated the large-fleet advances. There were about 75 of these massive vessels at the beginning of the war. And 30 more were built through late 2158. While their UESN code name was Cabbage, UESN intelligence and crewmen also referred to them as Sabinus-class and Jellyfish on occasion.

Weighing an estimated 500,00 tons, the Cabbage-class cruiser was tough, to say the least. It was not easily destroyed and could sustain plenty of damage.

The ship had hemispherical command hulls measuring 118 meters in diameter. The hulls it would seem housed the vessel's enormous deuterium fuel tanks.

Weapons-wise, the Cabbage-class cruiser relied primarily on its plasma cannon. With an effective range of up to 5 million kilometers, the cannon was used in attacks on surface installations, space stations and enemy ships. The ship was also armed with two types of fusion-powered missiles for destroying ships as well as firing at fixed targets: the long-range attack missiles called Mothra or Mambo and the short-range defense missiles named Moolah.

A spherical fusion reactor powered the vessel's impulse and warp drives. The Cabbage-class cruiser had a maximum warp of 2.5, while the standard velocity was 2.1. Its speed and maneuverability, however, were often compromised whenever the ship exceeded 3 light years. The vessel also had a short unfueled range. Such factors are said to contribute to the defeat of Romulan forces during the famous Battle of Hell's Gate in 2157, in which 27 Cabbage-class cruisers and a number of support ships went down.
