Quark, proprietor of Quark's Bar in Deep Space Nine, has come a long way since he left home in 2351 after celebrating his Age of Ascension rites.
A 24th-century Ferengi, Quark was born in c. 2333 (Terran equivalent). He is the son of Ishka and the late Keldar. He has one sibling, a younger brother named Rom, who would work as a bartender at Quark's.
In his 20s, Quark became an apprentice for a subnagus and was poised for success in the Ferengi business world. But his business career was cut short, as he was fired for sleeping with the boss's sister.
Quark would later be hired as a cook at a Ferengi freighter. During his eight-year stint there, he also acquired engineering and transporter skills that served him well in his subsequent endeavors.
At the Terok Nor (before it came to be known as Deep Space Nine), he opened Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade at the space station's Promenade. As owner and host, Quark saw himself as an ambassador of goodwill, a dispenser of advice and an entrepreneur of exceptional ability.
Among those aboard Deep Space Nine, Quark is notorious for engaging in shady ventures--and getting away with them. He is known to get a job done at the right price and that typically entails tapping a network of sources involved in illicit deals or illegal trade within the space station.
Station Security Chief Odo has caught Quark red-handed numerous times but penalizes him lightly. And while Quark may appear to be Odo's vicious adversary, the two seem to have mutual respect and affection for each other.
Despite often getting in trouble, Quark has through the years shown his loyalty and proven his worth to the personnel of Deep Space Nine, and is by Ferengi standards respected as a generous and compassionate individual.
