Being the heroes and having most of the major characters from their species, the federation gained the spot light in the Star Trek films and series. They also had the best and most number of starships which includes the flagship USS Enterprise and the USS Kelvin. The USS Kelvin NCC-0514 was used by the Starfleet during the early 23rd century and was commended by Captain Richard Robau with first officer Lieutenant Commander George Kirk.
The ship has more than 13 decks and can hold a crew of about 800 people. It has an upper saucer section and a secondary hull that contains a single shuttlebay. It has a single ventral warp nacelle that holds the warp drive. It also has an impulse drive located at the aft of the saucer section. It is equipped with sensors including the gravitational type and subspace communication systems due to its main function as a survey vessel.
The ship is powered by phasers, photon torpedoes and torpedo launchers. It is protected by a deflector shield. The torpedo launcher is able to do rapid-firing due to the double-barrel feature. This means it could launch several torpedoes at one time. The phasers were distributed in several sections of the ship such as both sides of the saucer’s top surface, halfway the central dome, and at the forward edge of the saucer section. The six torpedo launchers were situated between the phaser banks while the other launchers are at the underside of the center of the saucer section.
