The Tholians were among the different species featured in the show Star Trek. They utilized small starships with unique shapes and powerful weapons. There are many ships used by the Tholians including the Tholian Opal. Being mysterious and highly territorial species that have multiple extremities like spiders, there is very little data about the Tholians and their ships.
In general, the most powerful weapon of all the Tholian ships is the so called Tholian web. But in order to use the web, two or more ships should work with each other to weave it around the enemy’s ship. The ships would spin the energy webs just like a spider to immobilize the other ship first before destroying the enemy ship. It will not only trap the enemy but it could also destroy the whole vessel when the web is contracted. Aside from the powerful web, Tholian ships are also powered by torpedoes and protected by a deflector shield with a red hue.
The Tholian Opal belong to the class cruiser of the assembly and is only about a hundred meters long with a maximum warp speed of 8.5. Although smaller in size, its power to destroy another ship is equal to that of the Federation’s Constitution class. It may have been a product of the researches that the Tholian species made on the ships that got caught on their Tholian web in the mirror and actual universe.
