In the Star Trek Series and several franchises, United Earth had formed several alliances with different species and went on missions in the Milky Way Galaxy, leading to the commission of several starships. Aside from the USS Enterprise, USS Defiant was also a ship of the Federation. Its complete name includes the series number NX-74205.

The starship belonged to the series Deep Space Nine and was also seen in the film First Contact. It is one of the heavily armed ships of the Federation and in the Quadrant being built for a purpose – and that is to be used in the Dominion War.

The original Defiant was destroyed during the seventh season and was replaced by the USS Sao Paola. However, the Chief of Operations of Starfleet requested that the Sao Paolo be renamed as the Defiant too since it is a replacement ship.

It was designed by the art illustrator Jim Martin for the series. The ship has a warp core that occupied three decks in the aft section. It has four phaser cannons in the front above and below the nacelle root attachments. It also has at least three standard phaser beam emitters in support to the phaser cannons.

There are six torpedo launchers with four in the forward hull and two in the aft tucked near the warp nacelles. When it comes to defense devices, it has a cloaking device, a deflector shield, and an ablative armor.
