The Star Trek movie franchises and television series featured many different species as well as their technology, including battle ships and travelling aircrafts from the future. Most of the warships or larger ships used in the fictional sci-fi production house or carry smaller aircrafts for emergency situation, exploration, or short travels. Shuttlecrafts are used for the last purpose; like boats for ships. They are also called shuttles and are often used to travel from distances like that of a planetary surface to the orbit.
Overall, there were 17 known shuttlecrafts assigned to the Enterprise, Galileo being the most famous. They were used to carry personnel from one area to another as well as cargo and reconnaissance payloads. The shuttles of USS Enterprise are Brahe, Caroline Herschel, Clarke, Columbus, Copernicus, Edwin Drake, Ericksen, Galileo, Galilieo II, Galileo II, Halley, Hawking, John Burke, Kahoutek, Newton, and Valgard. USS Enterprise D and E has some other shuttlecrafts not mentioned here. Galileo was first seen in the episode ‘The Galileo Seven’ where it carried seven crew including James T. Kirk. Kirk said that the Galileo is 24 feet long. It has a box-like utilitarian shape. Later on, a larger shuttlecraft model was created with a long nose. Some other next models has a similar shape and size but has an updates engine nacelles and a large rear hatch.
