Star Trek USS Daedalus Star Ship

A Steamrunner-class explorer, the USS Daedalus (NX-129, upgraded later to NCC-129) was active during the 22nd century. It was recommissioned in 2162 as a Federation Starfleet vessel. It became the lead ship of the Daedalus class, the first group of warp-6 starships used by the United Federation of Planets.

The early Starfleet had six captains: Alonis Cobaryn, Connor Dane, Michael Hagedorn, Hiro Matsura, Bryce Shumar and Aaron Stiles. While the Daedalus was being reconstructed, Director Chinua Abute offered the ship to one of them.

Abute selected Matsura in large part for his ingenuity. Matsura is credited for coming up with a way to resolve the alien attack on a Starfleet joint mission to the Oreias system. He was assigned first commander of the refitted Daedalus upon its completion in 2161 at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The ship had a 230-strong crew. And its shakedown cruise required charting out a number of star systems.

The Daedalus would later fall under the command of Malcolm Reed. During that time, the vessel traveled to Organia, which no other starship had attempted before. Organia was a primitive society and its people appeared to be ambivalent about the existence of Starfleet, which surprised and confused Daedalus’ personnel.

Led by USS Daedalus, the Daedalus-class starships successfully explored the Federation’s territory and in the process touched based with new races and charted enormous volumes of unknown space. The vessels of the Daedalus Class retired by 2196. On May 15th of 2386, USS Daedalus would be relaunched under Task Force 38.
