The Terok Nor Space Station is important in terms of history, politics and strategy. It is an orbital space station that was originally built by the Cardassians in the orbit or planet Bajor. After the Cardassians withdrew from the Terok Nor Space Station, it became known as Deep Space 9.
Deep Space 9 soon became an important port and defensive position because it could be found near the entrance of the Bajoran wormhole. It was an important staging area for both the Federation Alliance and the Dominion during the Dominion War.
The Terok Nor Space Station was build by Bajoran slave labor when the Cardassian Union occupied the Bajor planet. This was between the years 2346 and 2351. Originally, the Terok Nor Space Station was supposed to serve as a refinery for uridium ore that was mined from the surface of Bajor. During mining, the temperature could go as high as 55 degrees Celsius.
The Terok Nor Space Station contained a wide array of ore refining and transport facilities. It had huge pylon docking structures which could fit up to seven thousand humanoid peoples at once an process up to twenty thousand tons of ore in a single day.
Aside from serving as an ore refinery, the Terok Nor Space Station was also a command post. This is where Gul Dukat, the Cardassian Prefect of Bajor, managed the military part of the Occupation. Gul Dukat said that the Terok Nor Space Station was a paradise compared to Bajor.
