The deadliest machine known to the whole universe was the Doomsday Machine as seen on the second season of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode entitled “The Doomsday Machine”. The Enterprise crew had encountered the machine that seemed to destroy everything on its path because of the distress signal of their sister ship the USS Constellation.
The Constellation was headed by Commodore Matthew Decker. He was the only surviving person abroad the ship because he ordered his crew to go to the surface of a nearby planet he didn’t know that the Doomsday Machine is capable of destroying the whole planet to bits which includes his crew.
According to Spock this Doomsday Machine was created long ago. A device that was created to destroy both parties of a war, although he thought this was just intended to be a bluff or some sort of a deterrent but there was no reason for them to actually use it.
And he himself was even surprise that it was even activated. He was sure that the machine wiped out its builders and is fueled by every planet it destroys. It seems like all hope is lost and that the Enterprise was also about to be destroyed by the machine.
Luckily Captain Kirk was able to device a way on how to destroy the killer machine with the help of Commodore Decker. In that episode the Commodore went to the Doomsday Machine kamikaze style which led to his death and also made the machine decreased in power.
Captain Kirk decided to use the Constellation the Commodore’s ship thermonuclear detonation to destroy the device. It was the only plan they have so even with uncertainty Kirk proceeded. And with the usual cliffhanger classic fashion, the Enterprise transporter shorts out that is supposed to carry Captain Kirk back to the ship from Constellation.
The plan was Kirk would manually set the Constellation’s 30 second detonation timer on the right time when the ship is near the Doomsday Machine. And the Enterprise crew would transport Kirk safely to the ship. Scotty has to make several repairs and as the timer nears zero his manage to fix it and safely transport Kirk back to the Enterprise. The explosion turned out to be enough to destroy the Doomsday machine.
The Doomsday Machine was the 35th episode of the Star Trek: The Original Series and it was directed by Marc Daniels and was written by Norman Spinrad. The episode was aired on October 20, 1967. It was repeated in April 19, 1968. And in February 10, 2007 a fully re-mastered “The Doomsday Machine” episode was aired. And there was a remake done on the episode 40 years later which appeared on the Star Trek Voyages: Phase II series.
